The weather in County Durham has been pretty uninspiring for the first couple of days of #30DaysWild (think 12 °C and 20 mph winds yesterday) but the sun is out this afternoon so I thought it might be nice to have a look at some of the plants which have just ‘turned up’ in my garden – some might call them weeds.
The ‘lawn’ plays host to a number of things, only a few of which are in flower at present; wild garlic and bush vetch under the apple tree…
Wild garlic, Allium ursinum
Bush vetch, Vicia sepium
…two different speedwells under the whitebeam…
Germander and thyme-leave speedwells, Veronica chamaedrys and V. serpyllifolia
and Welsh poppies, Herb Robert and Ivy-leaved toadflax up against the walls and fences.

None of these were planted but all have happily colonised my garden, which is much the brighter for their presence. There are plenty of leaves telling of more beauty to come so I’ll be returning to this theme later in the month.

Snap for most of those, though I don’t have Ramsons. However, my Foxgloves are doing well!
The Ramsons just appeared, to my delight – saves going to the river banks to pick leaves! I have a lot of self-seeded foxgloves in my allotment which are in bud now – looking forward to them flowering in a week or two 🙂
Your foxgloves are later than ours then – ours are open halfway up the spikes in Herefordshire. I wish ramsons would appear in my garden!
